Celebrations
This week we have enjoyed role playing different job roles in a castle, we created a persuasive job application and got the job! Then we imagined we had our first day in our new role and wrote a reflective diary entry about all the things that happened. It was brilliant to read all the children’s imaginative ideas about what their jobs role entailed and how their days went. We had jesters slipping on wet floors, knights collecting their shiny new armor ready for battle and cooks cooking up a storm in the kitchen!
Week 3
Friendship week
This week the children will be participating in a number of activities to promote friendship week. They will support the message that we are a ‘telling school’ and that we ‘speak out to stay safe’.
English
Phonics
You may be aware that children in Year 1 take part in a ‘Phonics Screening’ activity in the summer term. This requires them to read a number of real and nonsense words, applying the sounds they have been taught. Since our current Year 2’s missed their screening during the lock-down period, it will now take place in the week beginning 30th November.
This week, we will be using some of our English sessions to give the children some extra practice applying their sounds to read real and nonsense words.
Writing
Our focus this week is writing a high-quality recount of our virtual trip day. We will also use these writing sessions to teach about editing our own work and supporting peers in editing their work too.
Maths
This week in maths, we are going to be finishing our block of learning about money. The children will find the difference between two amounts and give change. They will also complete an end of block assessment which will help us to plan next steps to move children’s learning forwards. It would be wonderful if you could role play shops at home and encourage your child to work out and give the correct change. If you do this, we would love to see any photos, please send them to the class email addresses. Next week, we are going to start a new block on multiplication and division and this will continue until the christmas break.
Topic
Following the email, we are very excited to have an In School Trip Day on Tuesday. We will be extending our learning of castles by going on a scavenger hunt around the school looking for different parts of the castle which will be hidden. We will be developing our art skills by sketching a castle and practising our computing skills by using coding to help a knight defend its castle. As well as having a go at a number of knights and castle themed games.
In PSHE we are continuing with our topic of celebrating diversity and considering the stereotypes for boys and girls interests. In R.E we are studying the traditions and rituals of marriages of different faiths.
It is anti-bullying week this week. We are going to be focusing on friendship and will be talking to the children about this throughout the week.
