Wednesday 23rd October- Harvest Festival -Harvest Collection 2024
Please start to send in any Harvest donations of dried rice, pasta, and canned foods like soup, tinned meals, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel to your class teacher by Wednesday 23rd October when we will be donating them to representatives from the Salvation Army to support their work with homeless and vulnerable people in Bristol.
Thursday 24th October – Individual Photo Day
Friday 25th October – End of Term 1. Non uniform day. Contributions to FHIS.
Monday 4th November – First Day of Term 2 INSET – School Closed to Children
Tuesday 5th November – First Day of Term 2 for children

- We hope you have a wonderful half term holiday and look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 5th November 2024.
- Check the school calendar for Christmas dates for our Reception performance and carol service.
- Next week, you will receive the first part of your child’s online learning diary on Tapestry. Please share this with your child and celebrate the learning they have been doing in their first term at school. From Term 2, we will be asking parents to contribute observations to their child’s learning diary – more information to follow.
- PE kit – We have started teaching PE. Please ensure your child has a PE bag with kit inside (no trainers needed until Term 5) in school. We will send these home at the end of every term to be washed.

- Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day. We will go outside even when it is cold and raining.
- Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.
Celebrations
The children have enjoyed learning about the ELLI unicorn this week. The unicorn using their imagination in their learning. We have seen this learning behaviour in the children this week when they have made unicorn masks. They particularly loved using the glitter!

We will continue to label feelings and use the ‘feelings jars’ (inspired by the Colour Monster story) to say how we are feeling during different parts of the day.

Physical development
This week, we will continue to learn to move safely in spaces in the hall during our PE lessons, as well as continuing our Disco Dough to develop fine motor skills.
Literacy
This week in Phonics, we will be learning the graphemes/ phonemes: ss l ll
And the common exception word: go
We will practise blending phonemes to read and segmenting words to spell them using the phonemes and graphemes we have learned so far.
Writing: We will continue to practise writing our names with the correct formation, a capital letter to start with and then lower case letters.
Maths
This week, we will be thinking about numbers 1, 2 and 3 in depth. We will explore what the children already know about them, as well as learning about 1 more and 1 less than a given number.
Understanding the World
We will continue our learning about seasons. This week we will be going on an Autumn walk around the school site, collecting leaves, conkers and other autumny items. When we get back to the classroom we will be looking closely at these and the children will verbally describe different items.
Expressive arts and Design
After going on our Autumn walk, the children will be creating an Autumn scene looking at famous artists including Vincent Van Gough, Yokoyama Taikan and Claude Monet.
Religion and Worldviews
As well as continuing sharing the All About me box, we will talk with the children about who helps us to make good choices and create a list together (teachers, parents, carers, police, doctor, vicar, imam, rabbi …etc.)
