Wednesday, 19th October – Individual Photograph Day
Harvest Festival Donations- Next week we will have a visit from our local Salvation Army Representatives during our Wednesday assembly. Before then, we are asking for Harvest donations for them to distribute to those in need to be donated. Please just bring them to the classroom at drop off or pick up time.
We will be collecting tins and packets of food. All long life. No perishables please.
We ask for all donations to be into school intime for our assembly on Wednesday 12th October.
Celebrations:
Maple class used their initiative during ELLI time by taking advantage of the windy weather and constructing (and testing!) GIANT paper aeroplanes. Amazing!

Writing:
We will continue with our story, The Egg, this week.
After some dramatisation, the children are now ready to sequence the story and write it in their own words. We are thinking carefully about includes the basic writing skills perfectly (finger spaces, capital letters, full stops and handwriting) before moving onto include more challenging content such as noun phrases and powerful verbs. In our spelling session we will be learning in more detail, rules and application for words sounding ‘s’ spelt with ‘c’ e.g. centipede.

Reading:
Children will be participating in reading for pleasure activities this week such as recommending a story to a friend. We will be completing individual reading assessments.

Maths
In maths this week we will continue our work on addition and subtraction. Our lesson objectives for the week are:
- Subtract from a 10
- Subtract a 1 digit number from a 2 digit number
- 10 more, 10 less
- Add and subtract 10s
- Add 2 2-digit numbers

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)
In KUW this week the children will be learning about the Battle of Hastings. They will create a stop map to sequence the events that happened. We will also look at the 4 men who wanted to become King. The children will choose one of these 4 men and create a persuasive letter to convince the teacher why they should become King.
In Art this week the children will be creating self portraits. Using oil pastels to express themselves.
Religion and World Views
In R+WV this week the children will think about what their names mean and why their adults gave them their specific names. The children will then move on to thinking about common Muslim names and their meanings. The children will learn about Isalmic birth ceremonies; what happens, when and what each event symbolises. They will then create some Islamic geometric art.

PSHE
Our focus in PSHE this week is to consolidate our learning from PSHE this term. To demonstrate their understanding of choices and consequences the children will draw a picture of someone who is choosing to follow our Learning Charter. They will explain why and how this person is making a good choice.
